About the award

Continuously improving our services for students is vital to ensure we give them access to the best resources and opportunities. For this reason, rewarding the increased commitment provided by a university department, placement or careers service in helping students apply and maximise their work experience opportunities is at the top of our list.

Why they won

The University of Leeds team were open and honest about their limited resource and the judges were hugely impressed with what they’ve managed to achieve. They devised a faculty-wide ‘Employability Lecture Programme’, which has increased lecture attendance across all subjects by 74%. Alongside introducing mentoring programmes and careers fairs, they orchestrated summer boot camps for students who are graduating without work experience to help them succeed in the market. Their efforts have seen a 54% rise in the uptake of students on placement!
